Perhaps you’re curious what I’ve been reading as of late. And perhaps you just do not care. But I’m going to tell you either way – oh, with the exception of some books from my last post<\/a>. My Goodreads<\/a> gadget lists many of these books, but not all of them. If I’ve read a book before, I don’t put on Goodreads<\/a> that I’m currently reading it.<\/p>\n

The book I’m most actively reading right now is Fablehaven 2: Rise of the Evening Star<\/a>. The story so far is good, but for some reason I have a hard time getting into the book. That’s no diss to Brandon Mull<\/a>. I like the story he’s telling, at least so far. I think I just dislike the main characters he created – not because they’re bad characters or poorly written, but because I’m unable to sympathize with them. Either way, I enjoy the story, so it’s not like I’d stop reading the series.<\/div>\n

Before Fablehaven I read Anne McCaffrey<\/a>‘s Dragonflight<\/a>. Back in high school I discovered her as an author when I picked up one of her books (Dragonsdawn<\/a>, I believe). Twas a good book. I’m still debating whether it’s wiser to read the Dragonriders of Pern<\/a> books in chronological order or by publication date, but I guess I won’t know that until I’ve done one or the other – and I do plan to read the entire series given time.<\/div>\n

Now and again I like to indulge in Stephen King<\/a>. He satisfies most of my darker writing thoughts. Right now I’m reading Under the Dome<\/a>. Unlike The Eyes of the Dragon<\/a>, which is a great book for children, Under the Dome definitely has some gruesome imagery that I wouldn’t…endorse. At the same time, the book is interesting so far.<\/div>\n

Those are the three books that stand out in all of my recent reading. Otherwise, I have focused quite a bit on reading books that I won’t feel bad donating. The reason? I’ve flirted with a form of minimalism<\/a> for quite some time now and finally decided on how to do that with books.<\/div>\n

My goal is to only keep hard copies of books I really, Really, REALLY love or books that are signed. I have loads more paperback and hardback books than will fit under this category, however, so I’m trying to read many of them before November or thereabouts. Any book that I like but don’t love to the point of keeping in “dtb<\/a>” format will eventually make its way onto my kindle. So for now, I’m trying to read the books I don’t think I’ll feel guilty getting rid of (but as you can tell above, I also read some I like along the way as well).<\/div>\n
