Book of the Week: Goosebumps by R. L. Stine

Okay, Goosebumps is an entire series of books and I’m not sure if anyone knows off the top of their heads how many books are even in the series, but it’s a great set of books for Halloween time. Better yet, you don’t have to read them in a specific order. Oh, and the original covers are spectacular.

Having said that, there’s a basic, general premise. Ordinary kid’s life suddenly endures a change. That’s creepy. Like scary. Said kid’s life could be on the line, as well as those around him, but he doesn’t know what to do and other characters think he’s either kidding with them or gone crazy.

I don’t think any of the books reaches a traditional “happy” conclusion, but they’re great the way they are.

Now be careful not to pick up a “Goosebumps HorrorLand” book because those completely change the series, bringing them all together and not letting the books be the genius that they are. Maybe you’d actually like that, but I’d recommend just reading some Goosebump books for what they are before you go near HorrorLand.

Anyway, find a Goosebumps book or two and read them!
