My first real book series addiction arrived in the form of The Dark is Rising, a book and series by Susan Cooper. I loved books by that time, but this was the first series I absolutely obsessed over (shy of collecting news articles which were not readily available for books written in the ’70s).
“When the Dark comes rising, six shall turn it back, Three from the circle, three from the track…”Will Stanton begins noticing strange things on his eleventh birthday. Soon thereafter he discovers he is the “last” of the Old Ones, and a whole view of the world is opened to him that others cannot share. Now, he must find the signs that will allow good to battle evil.
It’s been years since I last read this, but I absolutely adore the book and series. I love the legend and creation. I love the story and I love the tale itself. I’m not giving you a huge review, but don’t let that get in the way of your reading a wondrous story.
Do what you must, but read The Dark is Rising.
