Book of the Week: The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater

Ley line – a straight line of mystic energy (or magnetism) that passes through natural and man-made locations/buildings of great significance, anything from Stonehenge to churches and natural wells or mountain ranges.

It’s one of these ley lines that lies at the center of The Raven Boys.

A boy named Gansey should have died many years ago. He was saved from death by the legendary Glendower who told him that he could live because someone else who was supposed to live was dying. Now Gansey is trying to find Glendower and has been brought to Henrietta, VA where lives a girl named Blue Sargent.

Blue has been told all her life that if she ever kisses her true love, he will die. This might be easily brushed off except that one St. Mark’s Eve, she sees the spirit of a boy destined to die within the next year. Her seeing him means one of two things: either he is her true love or she’ll kill him. When she later meets this boy in person, he introduces himself by the name “Gansey.”

This is a story about magic, deep magic that runs in lines crossing the earth, and wow is it a great story. Now go get The Raven Boys and read it!
