Self-Discovery aka Site-Discovery

You’d think this is going along well for me. I mean, I’ve written every single day for more than half a month. You’d be wrong.

You see, I’m getting into the swing of things and I’ve figured out multiple post types to continue after this month of posting. I’ve experienced some great breakthroughs and have even cleaned up issues with my site (with more to come).

Truthfully, I’m finding this harder than I should. My post yesterday and my Facebook/Twitter posts today all relating to depression/suicide might sound like they imply something, but they don’t. My posts do take a whole lot longer to write than they should.

You know the irony about my thirty days? It’s shown me I’m not interested in this site being something most of you seem to be interested in.

“You” generally like my posts about subjects “you’re” not sure how to put into words (and “you” personalize what I write so much that “you’re” going to think I’m specifically writing/not writing about “you”). While I’m capable of writing those posts, they don’t often interest me. I’ve got more of them up my sleeve, but after this month it won’t be many.

On the other hand, I’ve discovered that I like posting book recommendations and Youtube videos. Yep, there are many of you to whom I’ve given personal book recommendations, but my one-on-one recommendations usually take people years upon years for people to get around to. On my site, I can recommend books which a random person will then stumble upon “because of me.” Same with Youtube videos. Those who know me quickly lose interest when I post these types of post.

What about my own writing? Every now and again I like posting that. Poetry works best but mostly because I’m otherwise focused on the series for which I’m agent-hunting.

Once in a while I try to write posts on myths or history or whatnot and I flounder. These posts usually don’t make their way up.

As you can see, every type of post I’ve referred to above has been a type I’ve posted during this last week. It’s not a coincidence but it’s not the week’s posts getting on my nerves, either. It’s part of my learning what works and doesn’t work for me on my site.

Cool, huh?
